Humans are a creature of habit. People can go through their everyday environment and not notice the small aspects that make up that environment. The same can be said in the world of Hip Hop and the ways Underground Artist’s are overlooked.
I sat with an up and coming manager in the Hip Hop scene, Hakim Henderson about the unknown beauties that lie within Hip Hop. “I mean there’s a lot of talent out there man, there’s just a lot of barriers and B.S.”. Henderson goes on to explain how money plays a huge role in how business gets done in the industry.
Regardless of schematics, Henderson did acknowledge that there are plenty of artists in both south and central Florida that don’t get the recognition they deserve. “Noah Campbell and Taz Money definitely should be getting more love and they right underneath our noses.” Taz Money being one of the artists Henderson manages, has already began to gain early recognition in the industry due to his impressive streaming numbers.
With social media platforms like SoundCloud and TikTok, Underground artists have been able to grasp the ability to monetize their art. Being seen however is still a different struggle. “You really gotta put yourself out there, that’s what I push to my artists because at the end of the day that’s what’s gonna get you to where you wanna be”.
Just like artists mentioned by Henderson, there are probably things in your environment that you could be over looking. The small, beautiful aspects you may miss in your everyday walk of life could be the picture you pass everyday but forgot was there. It could be the beauty in the, “not quiet dead yet”, flowers you pass everyday to your car. It could be simply looking up at the sky and noticing an airplane in the distance.
Regardless of the overlooked entity, beauty can be found in the most common places.
